Home Schooling
Colorado has allowed home schooling since 1998. Compulsory
school attendance is required of children ages 7 to 16. Students
are required to attend classes a minimum of 172 days averaging four
hours per day which cover the following subjects: reading, writing,
speaking, math, history, civics, literature, science and the U.S.
Constitution. There are no requirements for teacher "qualification"
(for home schooling), and the state has an open-ended evaluation
option that removes the requirement for standardized testing.
Home-schooled students may participate on an equal
basis in any extracurricular or interscholastic activity offered
by a public school in the student’s district. The district
may charge up to 150% of the standard fees for the activity.
